RESPONSE: How to Develop Russian National Interests In the Face of Sanctions and the Rise of Technology

In response to Vladimir Soloviev’s comments on a sanction-related counter-offensive I wrote my opinions for the next step for developing Russian National Interests.

The EU is preparing a sixth package of sanctions and we haven’t even prepared the first response yet. Isn’t it time to go on a sanctions counter-offensive?

Vladimir Soloviev

I absolutely agree. Strong and decisive counter-sanctions are necessary for a strong and independent Russia. Nevertheless, additional measures of de-Americanisation must be completed in order to fully secure the interests of our great power.

I have proposed and continue to propose massive confiscations of material and intellectual assets of unfriendly countries. Also, I am convinced that the control and support of our Russian companies and companies that are mainly used in Russia should be significantly increased. I believe that many companies, such as Yandex, should receive increased state supervision and partial nationalisation, involving more indirect investment by the state in exchange for greater levels of synergy between the state and corporations.

Further, one of the areas of our national attention should be the development of R&D in gene editing, artificial intelligence and bioresources. Obviously, this is a complex task, so I suggest expanding and establishing a strategic R&D alliance with China, but I should also emphasise that this should be an exclusively Russian project and that the end results should be entirely under our control.
